Umred Paoni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Nagpur. Despite of being a wildlife sanctuary, it’s popular for its rich biodiversity and thriving tiger population. This wildlife sanctuary acts as Major tiger corridor between Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, Kanha Tiger reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve and some more tiger protected areas. Due to tiger protection acts in this wildlife sanctuary, many tigers have settled down here for generations. The most Famous tiger called Jay, known to be the biggest tiger in central Indian tourism zones has ruled this jungle. Along with tigers, the sanctuary is home to Indian gaur, Sambar, Chital, Chausingha, Wild dogs (Dhole), leopards, sloth bears and several other species. It is also a rewarding destination for birdwatchers, with species such as Woolly-necked Stork, Sandgrouse, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle and Crested Hawk eagle being recorded here.
